The all-women 13-member managing committee has been looking after the daily affairs of the Devi Temple at Mulakkal Kavu, Koottikkada, Mayyanad, Kollam since the last 2 years.
Although
at a public meeting 2 years ago, a gentleman was nominated as Secretary of
the Committee, G.Anandam, a college professor was elevated to that post
based on popular sentiments.
Later
it was suggested that all the members of the executive committee should be
women. That too was
implemented.
From
then on it has been a story of glory for the temple.
The committee was able to erect a flag post in front of the Bhadra
Bhagavathi at a cost of Rs.1.75 lakhs.
The women themselves collected donations and conducted the annual
festival with traditional fervour.
But
the committee is quick to acknowledge the help and cooperation of the
people and police.
The
President, Secretary and Treasurer meet every Saturday at 4 p.m. to
discuss the accounts. Printed
statement of accounts is distributed to members to ensure transparency.
Their
next goal is a flag post in front of the Durga Devi.
They feel that women administrators of temples can avoid
unnecessary expenditure and provide dedicated leadership.
And for that they seek the Divine Mother’s grace.
