Some display their talents even as tiny tots, while some others pass through life in relative anonymity, only to emerge with their abilities when their beards turn grey.

K.G.Chandrasekharan Nair, who retired after 36 years of service in the Cooperative Department of Tamil Nadu government, had not done any translation or creating writing before.  But after retirement, when he came to live with his daughter at ‘Vrindavan’, Kundaman Bhagam, Thirumala, Thiruvananthapuram, he decided to take up the translation of 1330-couplets long Thirukkural of Saint Thiruvalluvar.

The compressed wisdom of Kural has been translated into Malayalam earlier also.  Sri Narayana Guru translated a few chapters while S.Ramesan Nair has transcreated the masterpiece in verse.

Chandrasekhar’s effort includes translation of couplets, their meaning and interpretation, similarity with other poems and spiritual works etc.

He was born in 1937 at Amaravila and completed primary school education there.  Later he studied in a Tamil-medium high school at Nagarcoil before going on to obtain B.A.Degree in Economics from Madras University.

It was his discussion with Prof.Vinayaka Perumal, president of Tamil Sangham, which paved the way for the translation project.  He is at present translating the speeches of the scholarly Kripananda Variar into Malayalam.
