||||||||
|
When
the bangled hands of Shahu Banath turn the steering wheel of a
KSRTC bus, the travellers aren’t perturbed. For this 28-year-old woman is experienced enough to pilot the
heavy vehicle. Shahu
Banath, who was a sportswoman while at school, switched tracks to learn
motor vehicle driving after her marriage to Kabir, Anchal.
Kabeer, who runs the Al Bilal driving school admitted his wife as
another learner in the
school. After
obtaining driving licence, she became an instructor for the other women
learners at the school. As it
soon became known that the instructor had licence to drive heavy vehicles,
offer came her way to drive a private bus. Thus
she started driving the bus ‘Archana’.
Her performance was a sure inspiration for the women folk of the
area and soon Al Bilal felt an onrush of women learners.
So she abandoned her job as driver and became a fulltime instructor
at the school. In
the meantime she was selected as driver in KSRTC.
As a Government job was a long time dream, she accepted the job. As
driver of KSRTC bus, she works till noon.
Her afternoons are devoted to the learners at Al Bilal.
And with all this, she finds time to run her family consisting of
husband and two children.
