ACID WASTE FROM RUBBER PROCESSING AS SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY

Rubber Producers’ Society, Pothanikkad

Nothing is a waste.  What is waste in one process is raw material for another.

Pothanikkad Rubber Producers’ Society is proving this axiom at the latex processing unit.  They use waste acid obtained after converting latex into rubber sheets for producing electricity.  The society processes 4500 kg of latex daily.  The liquid waste resulting thereof is fed into a tank for producing gas.

This gas is fed into a diesel engine through a pipeline.  After starting the engine with diesel, it is switched to work on gas.  Using an alternator, electricity up to 5 HP is then produced.

All kinds of electrical appliances including light and machines can be activated by this power.

Technical know-how for the project was provided by Malanad Development Society.
