For many years now, an amateur astronomer has been actively collaborating with a worldwide network in the ‘search for extra-terrestrial intelligence’.  P.R.Mohan Kumar, ‘Andromeda’, Gandhi Nagar, Thrissur, is the lover of the sky who sifts through data provided by NASA and University of Berkeley in their search for life elsewhere in the universe.

The turning point in his life occurred when he was 22.  A chance letter to an address seen in the newspaper brought a book on astronomy by return mail.  He read the book with curiosity and enthusiasm.  And that kindled his interest in the science of stargazing.

Even when he worked as a power plant engineer in Damodar Valley Corporation, he had no difficulty in apportioning time for the nightlife below the vault of stars.  His later employment in Saudi Arabia brought him international exposure to groups of like-minded persons.

He was thus able to become active member of organizations like British Astronomical Society, American Planetary Society, International Hawk Watch etc.

Mohan Kumar is the owner of a rare extra-terrestrial gift:  two pieces of asteroids that fell in the USA.

He has the strong faith that life must exist in other parts of the universe.  And he waits patiently for the first signals from them.
