AGRICULTURAL FARM IRRIGATED WITH MUSIC |
||||||||
|
Can
music have a place in an agricultural farm? Yes,
say the young farmers Joji and Roy whose farm at Kodumpidi, Pala,
resounds with Christian devotional music from dawn to dusk. Drawing
inspiration after a visit to the meditation center at Potta, Chalakkudy,
they have installed speakers at many places throughout their 6-acre farm.
These gurgle forth the melodious strains of music for the flora as
well as the farmer-duo. Already
music-enhanced farming is yielding results, they say.
Even after working from morning till evening, one does not feel
tired. Bugs do not venture
into this paradise of Eden and birds do not disturb their yield, say the
former classmates and now partners in agriculture.
Chemical fertilizers have been completely avoided in the farm
growing bitter gourd, snake gourd, coconuts and many other vegetables. Though
for the past 3 years they have been involved in agriculture, it was only a
year ago that they tried out filling the farm with music glorifying the
Creator. Except
for one helper employed to irrigate the plants, all the works in the farm
are done by the duo themselves. Other than watering in the mornings and evenings, cow dung
slurry is applied once a week. When
they ventured into agriculture, they did not have to spend much.
Their main expense was the purchase of coir and wire for growing
the creepers. Joji
and Roy have thus proved that agriculture, as a profession, need not be a
losing proposition. The
