DOCTOR WHO DONATED OXYGEN APPARATUS TO MEDICAL COLLEGE |

|
Here is a
breath of fresh air from the milieu of commercialism in healthcare.
Pediatrician Dr. Sushama Bai,
who retired from Medical College, Kottayam recently has donated a Rs.1
lakh worth centralized oxygen unit to the hospital.
This
life-saving support system will help in the treatment of infants in the
hospital. Earlier, the doctor
had sponsored a TV set for the Pediatric ward. There
is a tragic side to her love of children.
Her elder son, then a 9th standard student, died when
his head hit against a tree as he tried to snatch a last minute
conversation with a friend from the window of the moving school bus. Perhaps
this memory has engraved in her heart a larger motherly love for the tiny
patients under her care. She
suggests that the medical syllabus be modified to include the right
approach and attitude a doctor should have towards the patients and
citizen at large. Daughter
of schoolteachers, she had passed SSLC in 1962 with 14th rank.
She is now joining Pushpagiri Medical College, Thiruvalla as a
Professor.
