BECOMING AN ADVOCATE AT THE AGE OF 66 |

A
degree certificate may be a begging bowl to many a youth.
But Annamma Paul joined Pre Degree in 1977 at the age of 54
with the simple desire to continue her academic career beyond 10th
standard. In
the same year, her 8th and youngest child Gloria too had joined
Pre Degree. Thus Annamma’s
academic quest restarted after a break of 38 years. After
successfully passing Pre Degree, she joined BA in Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam.
The Principal and other teachers who couldn’t think of a
gray-haired student in the classroom, vociferously opposed her admission.
But with a firm will and the help from a guardian angel in the
guise o political science professor soon she was able to enter the portals
of the college. Next
she completed MA from the same college.
In 1986 she joined Law College, Ernakulam along with her younger
son Subel. In
1989, at the age of 66, she completed LLB and enrolled as an advocate. “True,
I have the satisfaction o having achieved something.
Study never bothered me. Once
there is desire in the mind, all the rest is easy,” she says.
