Drumbeat
is the heartbeat of Kattaikode village near Kattakkada,
Thiruvananthapuram. For

For the artists this is a profession that earns them a living.
In a year a troupe performs at 100 functions from Thirunelveli in
Tamil Nadu to Palakkad in Kerala.

30 artists from the village are employed in Police, Armed Forces and
Paramilitary Forces, based on their ability in band playing.
How
come the whole village fell in love with band music?
84-year-old Enos picks up the notes from memory: two men from the
village, Silas and George who were extremely fond of band-music, learned
the art from Manuel, Kunnappuzha. Later
the duo taught the same to the entire village.
Enos
learned from Silas. And for
50 years he was associated with band troupes.
He taught his 5 sons to play the band.
The
band sets are purchased from Meerut, UP.
The people of the village do the repair and maintenance works.
