SAJEEV: PROVIDING FREE ‘HEN’ TREATMENT FOR SNAKEBITE

For people of Kaitharam village, Paravoor, who are afraid of snakebite, Sajeev is a saviour. This youth who has learned the art of treating snakebite from an adept in Malappuram uses ordinary hens for the purpose.
He
makes a small incision on the foreleg of the victim.
The hen’s excretory orifice is pressed against this wound.
As minutes would tick by, the hen’s face would turn deep blue and
life would ebb out of its body. A
few hens later the victim is out of danger.
Sajeev
does not accept either remuneration or gifts for his service.
He has so far treated about 200 persons in this manner.
He
insists that those who come for treatment should bring sufficient number
of hens. Broiler hens are not
suitable for his purpose and only ordinary hens are accepted.
While
the entire village is afraid of snakes and reptiles, Sajeev is fond of
spending time with his venomous friends.
He even allows scorpions to move all over his face and has
conducted ‘sarpa yagna’ in far off places.
