FREE SERVICE AS CHEF AT FEASTS FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS |

|
For more than 50 years, Kunjambu, Puthiyapurayil, Vengara, near Pazhayangadi, Kannur, has been chef at feasts. And that too without even once accepting remuneration for his service. Perhaps that suggests why the people lovingly call him ‘Sambar Ambu’. Cooking
at feasts and occasions, which he started when he was 25 continues to this
day when he is 76. He learned
the art from a chef who once camped in his neighbour Parathipokkan’s
house. Ambu, who was the
chef’s assistant then, used the experience to advantage when he ventured
on his own. People
from far and near come to avail the service of Ambu.
They are prepared to look for an alternative only if he is
unavailable. Ambu’s
disciples are also active in this field. Regarding
cooking as the fulfillment of his life, Ambuvettan goes on with his
service and servings.
