HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WINS INTERNATIONAL POETRY PRIZE |

Anuja,
a 10th standard student of Holy Angels Convent,
Thiruvananthapuram, has won the 1st prize in the poetry contest
organized by the International Library of Poets, London, for her poem,
‘My Mother’. The prize
has nothing to do with the age of the author; the only criterion being the
sparkling quality of the poem. Anuja
hadn’t meant to enter the contest.
But her uncle, who lives in England, after he happened to read the
poem, insisted that it be sent to the Editors’ Choice contest.
Her poem has been included in the anthology, ‘Lasting Calm’,
brought out by the International Library of Poets. It
isn’t in poetry writing alone that she excels in.
She is a regular participant in numerous science exhibitions.
Her entry, ‘Novel Spectrophotometer’ won the 1st
prize in the South Indian School Science Exhibition held at Kollam
recently. This prize was
followed by a special scholarship from the State Government. While
her father R.Krishnan, Executive Engineer, KSEB, is her guide and
companion for science melas, it is her grandmother Lalitha, retired
Chemistry professor, who is the motive force for her effort with the pen. “For
some poetry writing is akin to creating a conflagration from a tiny spark,
while for others it is like labour pain.
For me it isn’t so. I
just write down what comes to my mind.
It is when the heart is filled with contentment that I write,”
she says.
