SAJU MOHAN: starting successful narrow fabric units |
|||||
|
Initially
he started his
career as an employee with a salary of Rs. 600 per month.
And today he is the provider of job for 70
odd persons with his units producing technical textile products. After
obtaining a
diploma in mechanical engineering, Saju
Mohan of Nenmara, Palakkad, boarded the
vehicle to Tirupur in search of a job.
Joining the firm as an employee, he rose in 10 years to
head the
unit. In 1997, he
started a
firm of his own in Bangalore to produce narrow fabrics.
After successful operation for many years, in
2013 he came back to his hometown and started a modest unit in a
thatched
extension to his own house at Nenmara. Elastic, handle belts, tapes,
pet leaf,
furniture elastic etc. were the products of this venture.
As the company’s prospects improved, he started
another unit at Pezhumpara. However,
during Covid
pandemic the company’s operation had to be halted. As even monthly
repayments of
loans were difficult, he modified the machinery to produce masks loops. Then the demand for this product soared and
production had to be done round-the-clock to meet it. As nano
fabric products
found markets in Europe and US, he started a third unit at Ayyappanpara. A fourth unit for the production of raw
materials is also in the cards. The company
70 employs
which includes about 50 women. Every
year family tours are arranged by the company for the employees. His wife is
Jyoti. His eldest daughter and son-in-law
run the
unit at Bangalore. The second daughter
is planning to follow the footsteps of her father after doing MBA. A.Mujeeb
