At a time when people descent to the nadir of ethics to make money by hook or by crook, a housewife in Kattappana has shown the shining example of returning Rs.1 lakh found on the roadside to the rightful owner.

Salamma, 42, was returning from her sister’s place at Nariyampara when she found a bundle of 1000 rupee notes lying near the cross at Puliyanmala.  After informing a nearby shop, she informed a local cable TV channel.

The money had actually slipped from the hands of the spice trader Thomachan, who had passed by that place after withdrawing Rs.7 lakhs from the bank.  Once the identity of the owner was ascertained, she handed over the money to Jayachandran, MLA.  It was the MLA who later returned the money to Thomachan.

Salamma’s husband Babu is a wood worker.  Her elder son Anoop is an interior designer in a private firm in Kochi.  Two other children, Anu and Anol, are students.
