HARI VASUDEVAN: STARTING ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR COMPANY WITH CLASSMATES | ||||||
|
They were classmates of Devaswan College, Sasthamkotta, who studied in the 1990s: Hari Vasudevan, Harsh Kumar, Sreejith, Venu and Binu. Among them 4 entered the IT field after graduation, while the fifth one boarded the plane as flight crew. However, Hari Vasudevan was haunted by a wheelchair that he had made as part of the student project. When they had gifted it to a poor home an inmate had remarked that if they could get a self-driving wheelchair, it would surely be a boon. Hari had then decided to try to make one. The attempt yielded an electric wheelchair. And soon Hari was on the exit path from IT and entry into the uncharted territory of manufacturing electric wheelchairs. So he gathered his old frields and started a company, ‘Ostrich Mobility Instruments’. Today it is the No:1 company in India manufacturing electric wheelchairs.
