SATHYAN: PROVIDING FREE COACHING FOR PSC EXAMS | ||||||
|
At the age of 3, polio had curtailed the mobility of his leg. But Satyan was not ready to give up the effort to walk an extra mile to make a difference. After becoming a government servant in 1994, he had been sparing no effort in producing such government employees by giving free coaching to common folks.
Realizing that lack of proper guidance had prevented many from becoming
successful in PSC exams, Satyan invited 11 persons to attend his
coaching at Sree Narayana Samajam, Laloor, Thrissur in 2003. After 9 of
them became government servants, more job seekers started seeking him
out. In 2006, after he had shifted to Ayyanthole, he has been
organizing classes at Grameen Library, Aranattukara. 18 students, some
with barely sufficient skill to read and write, participated in the
first batch. The fact that a headload worker, Sajeevan, got selected as
Mazdoor, became an inspiration for all. He makes innovative use of human resource at his disposal. He selects the brighter ones among his students to be instructors at few other locations where he is conducting similar classes. The best way to learn something is to teach it to others. He makes the students prepare question papers based on the lessons learned. These questions have to be answered by others and the valuation too is to be done by the students. This way they become thorough in topics they teach / answer / value. There is provision for physical exercise training also. There is a ladies-only batch on Sundays. He has brought out two study aids titled Oruma and Thanal. The only condition he insists on is that the successful students should become life members of the Library.
