DR.MINIMOL MATHEW: THE PATIENT DOCTOR WINS STATE AWARD | ||||||
|
It would be logical to infer that doctors with sound mind and body would be able to help the patients better than someone moving about with a walking stick. However, those who observe Dr.MInimol Mathew, head of radiology at General Hospital, Ernakulam will not fail to observe her natural empathy and consequent loving and efficient care of the patients. This doctor had to undergo spinal surgery six times. Though it affected even her medical studies, she came out of the ordeal and pain with greater faith in the Divine and a firm resolve to serve the needy. After completing MBBS, she went on to do MD in radio diagnosis. And the job in a government hospital gave her the chance to be of use to the poor and needy. About 750 patients come to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment everyday. She not only coordinates the activities of the department, but also conducts the CT scan and Ultrasound scan personally. However much the rush of patients, she shows considerable patience and care in discharging her duties. Doctor’s day at the hospital starts at 8 am and continues even beyond 5 pm. She is ready to spend even more time for the patients. Dr.Minimol who has dedicated her life to the treatment and consolation of patients has remained unmarried.
