For her teaching is truly an act of love without the call of duty.  Sarasa, who has been a teacher and a resource person at the Vellannoor G.L.P.School, Kozhikode for the last 7 years, draws no salary, marks no attendance and maintains no service book.  Hers has been an act of love, done for the joy of imparting knowledge to the tender wards in her care.

Even before marriage she had dreamed of being a teacher.  After marriage she had shifted to her husband’s house at Vellannoor.  Both her father-in-law and mother-in-law were former teachers at the Vellannoor G.L.P.School and had close ties to it.

It was in such circumstances that a teacher of that school went on leave in 1997.  Sarasa was invited to fill that gap.  For one year she worked without wages.  Later she was involved in teaching children music and dance as well as in preparing teaching aids.

However, from 2002 onwards she has been a regular teacher in the school, thanks to the request of the parents of the second standard students.  The new mode of action-centric and learner-centric teaching suited her inclination.  The parents too felt happy that though other teachers may be transferred from the school, Sarasa will be there as a link of continuity.

She appreciates the support of students, teachers and public.  The inspecting teams from Education Department and SSU have expressed their appreciation of Sarasa’s work.

Her daughter Shilpa is a student of AWH Engineering College, Kuttikkattoor, Kozhikode and her husband V.T.Ramesh Kumar is a teacher and resource person at Vazhikkadavu A.L.P.School.

Truly, in her case the wards are her rewards.  And their success, her award.
