GAYATHRI AND NISHA: MALAYALI SCHOOLGIRLS WIN BRITISH SPELLING CONTEXT | ||||||
|
To those who come from the tradition of 51 letters to the alphabet, remembering the spellings in a 26-letter alphabet must have been easier. For when BBC conducted the national Hardspell contest for UK students, guess who ended up as finalists among the 1 lakh students: Gayathri and Nisha of Kerala origin.. The ultimate winner was Gayathri, a student of Merchant Taylor School. Her father Suresh Kumar is a doctor in Liverpool and mother an anesthetist. Nisha, the daughter of Dr.Abraham Thomas and Elizabeth is a student of Volver Hampton Girls School. Truly, two Miss Spells who escaped from misspells to win the contest.
