ANI GEORGE: STARTING HOME FOR INFANTS BORN OF UNWED MOTHERS | ||||||
|
Based on the answer to his prayer for guidance on the path of life, Ani George decided to return from Egypt – where he was with his father, an official in the Indian Embasst – and started providing shelter to unwed mothers to give birth and leave the infants in his care. The effort, which began 7 years ago in his home at Chembukkavu, Thrissur, has now expanded into an institution called Queen Mary Village near Themalippadam, Thykattusseri. Although he got a job in a pharmaceutical company on return to Kerala, he soon left it to concentrate in the effort to give the chance of life to fetuses on the verge of abortion. His wife Asha George - an equal partner in his social activity - and their 6 children used to care for the motherless infants. After locating unwed mothers, the Home provides them with privacy and care to give birth. In the last 3 years, 45 such infants were born here. Such babies are often legally adopted by couples without children.
