DEVASSY: PROVIDING LUNCH TO DESTITUTES AT MEDICAL COLLEGE, THRISSUR | ||||||
|
14 years ago, following the ruin of his business, Chittilappally Devassy had been led to the Medical College, Thrissur by a priest. There he met many who were less fortunate than him. That banished his despondency and instilled in him a desire to help those needy ones. It started with providing assistance to the destitutes in joining institutions run for their kind and in accompanying cured patients to their homes. Once the Medical College shifted to Mulankunnathukavu, he could see that many poor patients were struggling for lunch. Since then providing them free lunch has been his main concern. He has the support of few like-minded persons and few priests in this endeavour. 43-year-old Devassy and his friends have been providing porridge to 300 patients everyday for the past 2 years. After providing lunch to those standing in the queue, the team moves into the wards and hands over their gift of love to the destitutes there. To about 20 patients, Devassy and his team are the providers of all their needs. Though it takes Rs.1500 per day to run this service, he is buoyed up by the Grace of God extending as support from philanthropic persons.
