With the vigour and idealism of youth racing through their veins, two 17-year-old youth, Aswin.K of Manjady, Thiruvalla and Arun Haridas of West Hill, Kozhikode, have developed a website that provides an online blood donors’ directory of Kerala with comprehensive search features. The duo, who met and became friends through the internet, decided to work together on an exclusively philanthropic web venture beneficial to society.

“Our idea was to create a talent website first and we had to drop the project owing to monetary constraints.  It was then that the idea of a blood donors’ website struck us,” says Ashwin.  With Ashwin doing the interface, research and content development and Arun preparing the database, the duo took 40 days after their annual exam to complete the project.

The website provides an up-to date list of voluntarily registered blood donors, their blood groups, phone numbers and addresses.  Visitors can register at the website and contact donors at no cost.

“We are planning to develop a mobile version of the website too so that people can have more easy access to it over their cellular phone.  The Indian Red Cross Society State unit has shown interest in funding our proposed project and its Thiruvalla chapter has already issed a certificate of recognition to www.keralalifeline.com,” says Ashwin.
