SUHITA: FOOTPATH BOOKSELLER TO OWNER OF THREE BOOKSTALLS |

It was the love of books that prompted Aneesh, an employee of the Calicut Corporation, to start selling books on a small scale on the footpaths. But lack of time forced him to handover charge of the selling to Suhita, his wife. Today, their effort has expanded into 3 bookstalls in Kozhikode that is the haunt of students of professional colleges from Thrissur to Kasargod. The textbooks of engineering education are sold here at 40% discount and those of medicine at 60%. At the end of the semester, students come and sell the books to the bookstall. They get 40% for the books so sold. They then pick up books required for the next semester. This exchange forum of textbooks has made Athira Book Stall popular among professional students of Malabar. “After completing all the works at home, I go to the bookstall at 9.00am and return home at 9.00 pm. It is after reaching home that I have to teach the children. But these things have not worried me since I am doing something of interest,” says Suhita. She is more interested to look at her whole business as a service than as a profit-making venture.
