RAMACHANDRAN NAIR: FROM WELDING ASSISTANT TO BUILDING CONTRACTOR IN MUMBAI | |||||
|
With
Pre Degree and Driving as qualifications, Ramachandran Nair had
landed up in Mumbai along with 30 others in their quest to find employment
in the Gulf. But after 5 days,
they came to know from their agent that their dreams were not likely to
happen soon. While
others returned to Kerala, Ramachandran Nair stayed on and found himself a
job as helper in a welding company. After
1 year, in 1992, he started a welding unit in partnership with 3 friends.
But this venture flopped and he again landed up as an employee in a
workshop. This time Nair
studied all the aspects of the job before again venturing with his own
unit. That
was in 1994. The venture,
Security Welding Works, slowly scaled new heights.
He managed to buy new machinery and relocate the workshop and use
the old space for office purposes. Being
in constant touch with construction industry, he was able to establish
good contacts with many builders and thus enter into the real estate field
in 1998 with his Friends Real Estate Agency. Social
activities like Malayali Samajam and theatre activities had made Nair a
popular figure in Virar. So after 2 years of observing the real estate
field, he ventured into the construction field in 2000 with a capital of
Rs.11 lakhs. After
completing 6 projects totaling 400 flats in Virar, his other projects were
known under the banner Akash Enterprises, named after his son Akash.
With ongoing projects worth Rs.20 crores, the old job seeker has
indeed come a long way. According
to him, 50% of his customers are Malayalis.
For him, the deal with customers does not end with the sale of the
flats. They are treated more
like family members. The
Bhoomi Pooja for a project is a grand affair where all the customers are
invited. Interaction
with Sri Sri Ravisankar has infused some fresh ideas into his concept of
designing living space. In his
new project there is provision for meditation hall in addition to other
facilities. Courtesy:
