For years, this college has been bagging the State Health Department award for the maximum number of blood donors among its students. And being in the vicinity of the Medical College, Devagiri College at Kozhikode accepts this honour with self-imposed responsibility.
Faculty member Bobby, who happens to be the team leader for Red Cross Society in the college, has taken on the additional responsibility of leading the blood donors’ forum too. Anyone approaching the students with a small note from Bobby is likely to find willing donors dime-a-dozen in the campus.
All the students of the college are members of the donors’ forum. The college has a blood group database of all its students. Last year alone, the students contributed 200 units of blood to the needy.
Once the students are convinced about the genuineness of the need, they are most willing to offer blood – be it day or night. The inspirational role of the Principal Fr.Joseph Violin in this service activity is also noteworthy.
