In 2006 Kunhiraman Nair will be completing 50 years of service as accountant of Darul-Ulum-Association group of institutions of Vazhakkad.  Although he had retired after 40 years of service in 1996, the Association had pressed him to continue his work of honesty and integrity.

While discharging the trust reposed on him by the Association, Nair continues to be the Vice President of the Mahadevi Temple at Marakkatteeri, Vettathur: a post he has been holding for the past 30 years.  However, it is as ‘Waqaf’ Nair that he is known to the people of Vettathur.

The assets of the Association were originally contributed by the Koyappathodi family of Vazhakkad.  Theseinclude an English-medium high school, Shopping Complex, more than 500 acres of land as well as Darul-Ulum Arabic College which was an early seat of Islamic learning in Kerala,.  And Nair keeps accounts of the crores-worth assets with utmost diligence.

It was the contact his uncle has with the Koyappathodi family that landed him in the post of accountant at the Association.  Over the years, he had been able to establish close contacts with some of the illustrious students and teachers of the Darul-Ulum College.

“Knowingly I have not misappropriated even a single rupee.  I know I will have to answer for everything in the Divine Presence.  So I have been careful to be 100% honest in my work,” he says.  A claim that is seconded by K.P.Mahamood  Haji, President of the Association.

At 72, although troubled by health factors, he promptly attends his duties.  His wife is Vatsala.  Their progenies are Devadas, an Executive Engineer in KSEB, Sreedas, Rajasree and Sati Ratnam.
