DR.VINCENT PAUL: RESEARCH FIRM THAT POWERS WORLD’S LEADING PERFUME MANUFACTURERS | |||||||
|
Long before many others had foreseen the potential of business or knowledge process outsourcing, Dr.Vincent Paul had started doing world-class research and development work for multi national companies here in India. His Anthia Aromatics Limited, Mumbai, is a knowledge storehouse that powers the leading perfume manufacturers of the world. Son of Prof.M.P.Paul, Vincent too wanted to be a litterateur like his father. But his destiny was not to perfume the pages of any book with his words. After obtaining B.Sc from Sacred Heart College, Thevara and M.Sc from Loyola College, Chennai, Vincent obtained his doctorate from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Although he continued his research in Columbia University, USA, as a Fulbright scholar, the life in the fast lanes of America did not attract the researcher. So after 4 years he came back to Mumbai as a scientist in Unilever Company. His 18-years of work in the labs of Hindustan Lever gave him many opportunities to develop products and processes as well as contribute technical papers and obtain patents. In 1983 he resigned from the company and floated a consultancy firm on his own. Based on self confidence born out of reputation he in the market, he started Anthia Aromatics in 1991. Soon the company’s clientele included the top firms in the perfume and flavour business in the world. Anthia has its presence in US, Europe, Asia and Middle East. In Mumbai, it has 2 plants and a lab where 12 scientists are employed. His son Dr.Paul Menacheri, is the head of R&D while other son Mathew looks after the commercial affairs of the Rs.50 crores turnover company. Dr.Paul Menacheri, while he was doing research working in USA, was strongly urged by the American employer to apply for a Green Card. But to Dr.Vincent’s son, the answer was simple. Then why did not my father do it 30 years ago?
