He literally brings the smile back on the faces of children suffering from cleft lips. Dr.Manikandan, a facial surgeon with the Cleft Children International at Chennai is a savior for many children. He and his team at the Centre provide free treatment to the children suffering from cleft lips and other facial deformities.
The children and their accompanying person are provided travel expenses, boarding, lodging, medical care etc free of cost. The Centre is run with aid from Cleft Children International, Switzerland.
A native of Palappuram, near Ottappalam, Palakkad, Dr.Manikantan had undergone advanced facial surgery at England. Apart from him, 4 other doctors also provide their service at the Centre. Already the Centre has completed surgery for about 500 children.
According to him, sometimes the children will have to undergo upto 5 surgeries in sequence.
The Cleft Children International has centres in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai etc. He has plans to start a centre in Kerala.
