For their effort at developing a device to save tiny hatchlings from the nets of fishermen and thus sustain the ocean-wealth, 4 scientists of Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi have been honoured by the World Wildlife Fund with the International Smart Gear Award.

Principal Scientist Dr.M.R.Bhupendra Nath, Senior Scientist Dr.P.Praveen, Senior Research Fellow T.R.Jibin Kumar and S.Sabu comprise the team that created Juvenile Fish Excluder cum Shrimp Sorting Device (JFE-SSD).

The team leader will receive the US$ 5000 award at a function in Washington on April 21, 2005
