KRISHNA KANT: SCHOOL STUDENT INVENTS SPEED GOVERNOR FOR AUTOMOBILES | |||||||
|
A
10th standard student’s patented invention of speed governor for
automobiles has been developed by him with the help of National Institute
of Technology, Kozhikode. Krishna Kant, a student of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan had submitted his proposal to President APJ Abdul Kalam. Later the Science and Technology ministry at the Centre accepted and funded the project, which was carried out with technical support from NIT. While the current speed governors in the market cost around Rs.20000, Krishna Kant’s device can be made for less than Rs.5000. However, the prototype needs further refinement before it can be put to commercial production. Sensor, electronic control unit and solenoid valve are the key components of the device. As the speed exceeds a preset value, it prevents flow of fuel to the engine. NIT faculty who gave technical support to the young innovator are Laila B.Das, Assistant Professor, Late Dr.K.P.Raveendran and Dr.R.Vijayakumar. His next dream is to design an automatic lighting system for automobiles that is capable of dimming automatically as per requirement. ‘However, as I am in 10th standard, I will be concentrating more on studies,’ says the young achiever.
