It is in helping the needy that one’s manliness is made manifest. The 12-member group of workers based at Vikas Nagar, Sreekariam, Thiruvananthapuram is on a mission to provide free service to the poor individuals and government establishments.

The ‘Kairali Purusha Sahaya Sangham’, formed by carpenters, masons, tailor, painter etc started its operation by painting the Anganwade in Vikas Nagar. The other works undertaken by the Sangham free of charges include painting and furniture repair at Government School, Sreekariam, painting and furniture repair at the Mental Rehabilitation Centre at Pangappara, furniture repair and relaying of roof tiles at the LP School, Kariam etc. The Sangham does these works free of charge and refuses even to accept lunch as an honorarium.

These workers are engaged 5 days a week as professionals in construction field. It is only during holidays that they are able to do community service. For availing their free service, the deserving candidates only need to visit their Vikas Nagar office.

“It was a desire to do a different kind of community service that prompted us to engage in this work,” says Baiju, the President and Radhakrishnan Nair. And so, while many others look forward to rest on holidays, the Sangham members look forward to do selfless service on those days.
