VASUDEVAN: SILENT BLOOD DONATION AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT | |||||||
|
It was from
the statistics available in the register at the Sri Chitra Medical
Institute that the authorities came to know about the consistent and
silent blood donation yagna undertaken by Vasudevan, a 56-year-old
pharmacist at VSSC, Thumba. And for his effort, he was recently conferred the Blood Donor Award instituted jointly by the State Blood Donation Council and AIDS Control Society. December 1 is Vasudevan’s birthday. Since 1987, he has been at the blood bank on his birthday, donating blood to help the unknown patient who may be in need of it. Since donation of the liquid love can be done twice or thrice, Vasudevan repeats the good-Samaritan deed on June 1 also. Thus the O+ donor has contributed his blood 36 times so far. Since none approached him for the not-so-rare group of blood, he had decided to donate it voluntarily. However, he had not made any effort to publicise his deed. The authorities had come to know of it from the register at the blood bank. His wife Nalini is a Sanskrit teacher at the Govt. Girls High School, Pettah, Thiruvananthauram. Nisha is their daughter.
