ANU KOSHY: RESURRECTION FROM A WIDOWED HOUSEWIFE TO A SUCCESSFUL SMALL ENTREPRENEUR | |||||||
|
After the death of her husband, young Anu Koshy could have lamented her fate and live out her life in idle sorrow. But this housewife chose to confront life with a zest to excel in her chosen profession and is today the employer of 12 ladies at the Shadows stitching and embroidery centres, Thiruvananthapuram. When her husband died, their son Alan was just 3 years old. Within a week she gave birth to a daughter Archa. With sorrow transformed into a numbness, she passed through the next 8 months, moving between parents’ house and in-laws’. One day she decided to go back to her husband’s place, Thiruvananthapuram, where she knew practically none. Within 8 days of coming to her husband’s city, she started doing handwork on textiles. 2 sewing machines and the salary of an assistant were the investments. Even without a board or a hoarding, the business started gathering pace slowly. It was then that she put a signboard and named her firm, ‘Shadows’. Today, 4 signboards herald her different ventures: ladies tailoring, hand embroidery and handicraft. In addition, she looks after the medical store owned by her father-in-law. “Look, I now do everything myself. I take the children to Sankhumukham beach every Sunday. Once in a while I take them to a hotel for dinner. If anyone passes any comment, I don’t bother. “When God gives a slap, He always gives a supporting hand also. I am sure, sitting somewhere, my husband is rejoicing in my resurrection,” concluded this woman of courage and and conviction.
