|
Time: 10a.m. Teachers are present in all the class rooms of Government Higher Secondary School, Mookkuthala, Edappal and have started noting attendance - except in Class 8B. But the students know their teacher will come only 5 minutes late to the class. Guided by the students, Moosa master reaches the class. Leaving him near the table, the students occupy their seats... For the last 9 years, Moosa master’s movement from class to class in this manner is familiar to the school and the neighbourhood. 3rd son of Mammikkutty and Beepathu of Nellissery, Vattakkulam, Moosa was not born blind, but lost sight at the age of 3. But he kept on studying, completing SSLC from Govt.High School, Mankada and B.A from Faroke College beside B.Ed from Special B.Ed Centre, Kannur. He began his teaching career, first as a temporary instructor, but later got appointed as a permanent staff. His social studies class is a favourite with students. When the need comes to write on the board, Moosa master instructs one of the students to do so. He enlightens his wife about the correct answers to the examination questions and let her value the answer papers. He has a clockwork precision about everything. He attests that the alphabet devised by Louis Braille has been the boon for people like him. Moosa master is active in social and cultural circles too. He is the Acting President of the Kerala Federation of Blind Teachers’ Forum. He is skilled in creating maps which could be useful to visually impaired persons.
