Son of a farmer from Kalyassery, K.P.Padmanabhan Nambiar but harvested his success in the field of electronics.

Being at the helms of the pioneering Keltron for 12 years, starting from its inception in 1973 to 1985 was the highlight of his technological career, as Nambiar himself attests. Although he later went on to head the public sector Indian Telephone Industries and was the Secretary of Electronics Department in the Central Government during 1987-89, he remembers his days at Keltron with satisfaction as It enabled him to start many projects and thus provide jobs to many back home.

Starting his education at the humble Kalyassery Elementary School, Nambiar went on to graduate in Physics from Madras University. After obtaining a diploma in electronics from St.Xavier College, Mumbai, he then obtained advanced degree in electronics from London and joined Bharat Electronics, Bangalore. After stints at Texas Instruments and Tata Electronics Lab, he was handpicked by the then Chief Minister Achuta Menon to head the fledgling Keltron.

Later, turning to enterpreneurship, he founded Namtech at Bangalore to manufacture electronics items. This company now employs 800 persons. Nambiar is the chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode since its inception in 1997. Recently he has been nominated fellow by the City Guild of London Institute.

For someone who dreams big and strives tirelessly to achieve it, the paralytic stroke he suffered last year was a physical set back. But that hasn't dampened his business acumen or generation of ideas.

At the age of 76, when Nambiar is planning his retired life at Kalyassery, it isn't a complete farewell to his earlier way of life. He is already working on concretising an IT Park north of Mangad Parambu in Kannur. He has already located 700 acre land for the project.
