PAVANNI: RUNNING PRINTING PRESS WITHOUT LABOUR DISPUTE SINCE 1951 | |||||||
|
A business that employs 700 persons has traveled through half a century without a single labour dispute. That is the history of Victory Press, founded by K.T.Pavunni in 1951 at Kunnamkulam with an initial capital of Rs.7500 and an employee strength of 5 including himself. And the success of his venture has turned Kunnamkulam into the printing capital of Kerala. He used to operate the pedaling machine himself to generate invitation cards, application forms etc. Slowly business prospered. Addition of new machines and technology every year, followed by long sighted planning and hard work and a thrust for quality saw the venture grow from strength to strength. That planning has resulted in the diversification of the company in various fields with its presence as Victory Paper Sales Division, Hotel Victory, Victory Inn, Victory Ice Plant and Cold Storage, Victory Computer Forms etc. The annual turnover of the group is Rs.75 crores. Victory Press is one of the few presses approved by the Government as security printers permitted to print cheque, demand draft, share certificate etc. Seeing the increasing demand for paper, Pavunni started the Rs.14-crore paper factory at Elappally, near Kalpathi, Palakkad. This 30-ton per day unit is the first paper factory in Kerala to use wastepaper as the raw material. With his deep vision, he could foresee the need for computer forms as early as 1992, when he started the Victory Computer Forms, the first such unit in Kerala. His sons K.P.Sacson and K.P.Davis help him in managing the group. So too his wife Achamma. As ubiquitous as the voice of Yesudas in a Malayali house hold, is the presence of Victory Press products – either as KSTRC bus ticket or as notebooks or any other printed matter..
