DILNA: RANK IN SSLC STUDYING ON BORROWED BOOKS | |||||||
|
She had borrowed old books for her studies as her parents could ill afford new ones. The question of tuition was unthinkable for her father K.Chandran, a laterite stonecutter and her mother, a beedi worker. And yet when the SSLC results were announced, Dilna had won 15th rank in the State. Being a bright student since the Primary classes, the teachers of Rajas Higher Secondary School, Kottayam, Pathiriyad, Koothuparambu, Kannur had taken special care to guide her. Last year Dilna was the champion at the Sanskrit Youth Festival at the Sub District level. Dilna’s eldest sister Deepa is a student of Engineering College, Kannur and her other sister Dhanya is a student of T.T.C at Palayad. While cost of Deepa’s education is being met by a bank loan, the parents are apprehensive about the further studies of Dilna.
