They reap electricity just like they reap crops in their farms.  Abraham of Vamattam and Jose of Thanikkappara from Poonchola, near Kanjirappuzha, Palakkad are a few of the farmers who take advantage of the perennial stream flow and steep hydraulic gradient to generate electricity in their compound.

From near the source of Nellippuzha, Jose harnesses the water to flow down 120 feet and fall on the impeller of his ½ HP pump set to produce electricity.  His household load of 8 bulbs and a TV have been running on the power produced thus for the past 8 years.

Abraham too does a similar scheme by bringing down the water using pipe from a height of 50m and allowing it to fall on a turbine.  As the water supply here is also perennial, he collects the tailrace water into a storage unit and uses the same to carry out drip irrigation in his land.  At times when he doesnot need the current, he lets the water away from the turbine.  Thus, to him, switching on an electrical appliance is simply letting water fall on the turbine.

In the forest area of Poonchola-Kakki, this method of electricity-generation has ample scope.
