KUNHIKKANNAN NAIR: TUNNELLING RAIN WATER TO SUCCESS
Kunhikkannan Nair, Kasargod

Farmer from Kasargod, Kunhikkannan Nair stores rain water in a unique way suited to the geography of his place. On the slopes of hills are natural tunnels with smaller tunnels meeting the same at right angles.

Nair diverts the rain water to the smaller tunnels from where it flows to the larger tunnel and finally to the storage place. While many others struggle for water in the area, Nair has it in plenty thanks to the appropriate but small intervention.

His story was showcased in the documentary on similar success stories screened at the Kerala House, New Delhi as part of the Environment Day celebrations on June 5.
