Art transcends all barriers.  The idol of Lord Ganesha in panchaloham installed at the Thozhuvancode temple, Thiruvananthapuram was designed by Maheen, a Muslim.

Maheen, a native of Karamana, follows Kanippayyur’s book on Vasthu to make idols.  He makes sketches in 3D before casting the idols.  Besides the idol of the deity, the gopurams and nadapandal of the Thozhuvancode temple were also designed by him.  A true professional, Maheen takes orders and executes them on time but does not bother much about where his creations are finally installed.

Maheen, who worked in Muscat for 11 years before returning to Kerala, has recently completed 7 different bhavas of Devi for the Naduthala Bhagavathy temple.

He imbibed the art of sculpting from his uncle Sainulabdeen.  As a school boy he provided economic support to family by casting idols.

He has sculpted some of the popular works of Ravi Varma and Michael Angelo.  Maheen uses clay, plaster of Paris and glass fibre as medium and undertakes renovation work as well.
