Charity should begin at home.  Why not scientific experiments also.  Dr.Abdul Latheef, Principal, Homoeo College, Thiruvananthapuram and Controller of Homoeopathic Medical Education has chosen the terrace of his house at Vellayambalam, Thiruvananthapuram to do a novel experiment on extending the shelf-life of vegetables using homoeopathic medicines.  And the interim result of his study has been the tomato that is unspoiled even when kept in the ordinary atmospheric conditions for 4 months.

He plucked the tomato on September 27 last year and till date the fruit has not shown any sign of rotting.  According to him, the reason for the phenomenon is the combination of 20 homoeo medicines that has helped in preserving the chemical structure of the hormone responsible for decay of fruits and vegetables.  This 20-medicin combination, diluted with water, is used for soaking the seeds before sowing.  The same potent combination is sprinkled on the plants once in 3 weeks.

Dr.Latheef cultivates ladies finger and legumes using this method in his terrace garden.  There is no difference in either taste or quality of these produce when compared to the normal varieties.

Since the cost of homoeo medicines is only marginal, he hopes the farmers can make use of this knowledge.
