His is a true story of how repentance transforms a sinner to a humanist or saint.  Once the name Reni George of Karikkinvillae murder case was synonymous with hate and aversion.  Now after his miraculous conversion to righteous living and his taking up the cause of children of prisoners, he is a much changed man.  No wonder, IG of Police, Siby Mathew, who unraveled the murder case and thus sent Reni to life imprisonment, himself released the CD on Reni’s conversion to virtuous life.

One of the 9 children of George and Susan of Kottayam, Reni practiced petty thefts even at home.  Later, he was thrown out of the college at Nattakom due to his drug abuse.  From there he went to Chennai, where the intoxicating world of drugs made him and his foreign mates plan bigger robberies to quench their addiction.

They came to his distant relative George and Rachel, a rich and old couple.  The attempt at robbery resulted in their murder as the old man showed resistance.  This apparently clueless murder was solved by the then ASP of Police, Siby Mathew and the court sentenced Reni to life imprisonment.

Even in jail, Reni continued his wanton ways.  But in 1987, during a parole, his friend Roy Varghese led him to a prayer meeting.  That was the turning point.  The man who came out of the prayer hall was the opposite of Reni of yore.  He came back to the jail with the message of repentance for his fellow prisoners.

In 1992, Tina from Mangalore came forward to choose him as her husband, knowing fully well his background.  After release from prison, he settled at Bangalore with his wife. He now devotes his time to bringing up 65 children whose parents are in the prisons for various reasons.

There is a twinkle in his eyes when he says that along with his daughter Rema, these children also call him daddy.
