An IT company from Kerala taking over a successful European IT firm is certainly newsworthy but to V.K.Mathews, the head of 'IBS Software' that has pulled off this deal, this is just a progression of their efforts to deliver world class products.

His Rs.80-crore-turnover company, the top IT exporter from Kerala, has grown in 7 years to be a global player in aviation-related IT products. "It is not the quantity of work that matters, rather it is the value that one adds to it that really matters," says Mathews, who has taken efforts to instill a professional work culture in the company from the very beginning.

For increasing the productivity of crew and to monitor the movement of aircrafts, Avient, the European company taken over by IBS, had developed 3 products. These had been used by few successful airlines and busy airports. With the acquisition of the European company, IBS would now market the product.

Mathews, a former GM of Emirates Airlines, is in the process of bringing to the market the next generation aviation reservation system, 'IRIS', which the company hopes to deliver in collaboration with a global IT giant.

Mathews, a native of Kizhakkambalam in Ernakula, studied at St.Joseph's School, Kizhakkambalam before joining St.Peter's College, Kozhenchery. After completing his Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Engineering College, Kothamangalam, he went on to complete M.Tech from IIT, Kanpur. After working as IT faculty in Army, he joined as system analyst in Air India. After 2 years he joined Emirates Airlines as a Formative Manager and later went on to head the IT division of the company.

One of the few companies with CMM Level 5 certification, the IBS is reaching out to greater heights even while placing its feet in the Kerala soil.
