Son of an illustrious ayurveda practitioner, Krishna Kumar could have completed his ayurveda studies and joined his father at the helm of affairs at the Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), Coimbatore. But he chose to voice the concern of many about the need for marketing the medicines and claiming for ayurveda a respectable place among the systems of treatment. Chairman of the Ayurveda College, Alwaye Students' Union, Krishna Kumar led a strike that affected other colleges in the State. When the father came to know about the extra-curricular activities of the son, he was furious.

So after graduation, Krishna Kumar chose to devote his time to lobby for ayurveda at Delhi. Starting in 1973, he met Indira Gandhi and Karan Singh, besides officials of the World Health Organisation (WHO). In 1976, his efforts culminated in recognition for Ayurveda conferred by WHO on September 10.

The same day that Krishna Kumar came to know about this happy news, a devastating news awaited him. His father P.V.Warrior had passed away, happy at the news from WHO and the role of his son in achieving it.

In 1992, he took over as Managing Director of AVP. From then it has been a steady growth for the organisation. 600 agencies, more than 30 branches, 36-acre herbal garden, 3 units for manufacturing medicines, 450 medicines, 120-bedded hospital at Coimbatore, besides hospitals abroad, the network of Rs.17-crore-turnover AVP goes on increasing. The Ayurveda Trust under AVP is the only organisation in India that has been accorded recognition and aid by the National Institute of Health, USA.

Arsh Yoga Vidya Peetam, Ayurveda College, a research centre called International Institute of Ayurveda, AVR Eductional Foundation, a periodical titled 'Ancient Science of Life' etc are the other ventures of AVP. Krishna Kumar, who lives at Coimbatore with his relatives and family members, has been the President of Keraleeya Samyuktha Mandalam. He has received many honours like Pride Of Coimbatore by Rotary Club etc.
