30 years ago, doctors at the renowned Washington Institute of Heath Science had told him: "Mr.Gowri Sankar, enjoy life – for the balance 2 years." They were in fact conveying the unpleasant fact that the mysterious disease that had paralysed his body below the neck was beyond medicine and his chance of living beyond another 2 years was remote.

Yet 30 years down the line, wheelchair-ridden Gowri Sankar is going steady. He is a leading advocate at the District Court, Palakkad with 6 juniors working under him and has visited many countries in Europe and America. For many years he has lived in US. Thrice he has been to the Himalayas. When he decided to start a dairy farm, he went to Panjab to buy buffaloes. He went and purchased cows from Uttar Pradesh for his farm. He has been to Bihar to buy good quality seeds. Even now, he often travels more than 2000km in a month. How did this transformation occur?

When the doctors in US expressed their helplessness, he thought of committing suicide. But that was beyond capability of a person paralysed below the neck. Seeing him in this situation, his friend and guru, the 'Flying Swami' Vishnu Devananda, who had advised him to try the treatment in US, also became sad. Swami then taught Gowri Sankar yoga and meditation. Gowri Sankar practiced yoga by lifting his inert limbs. Later, while practicing meditation, he developed an inner strength that made him discard all thoughts of suicide.

Back in Palakkad as a man with a resolve, he gathered the threads of his profession. With the help of his wife and 3 children, he started handling numerous briefs from various clients that started coming his way. With the money so earned, he bought barren lands and converted them into good farms. From the profits of these farms, he again bought more land and expanded his love of agriculture.

With 60 staff working under him, Gowri Sankar leads a busy life. He attributes all success to the love and care of his wife Lalitha, whom he considers as his body. "I don't pray for myself but only for my wife", he says.
