C.K.Sujan, a Pre-Degree qualified goldsmith from Kodungalloor has improvised a device to reduce polluting smoke and dust at the workplace.

Sujan, who runs a jewelry-making unit, was denied the renewal of licence to fabricated ornaments since his unit did not meet the pollution control norms.  Undaunted, he worked on an indigenous solution to the problem.

His 3-year effort culminated in a machine, which receives the polluting gas or liquid through a hose into a water chamber with the help of an air-injection pump.  In the second stage, the mixing unit neutralizes the pollutant or separates it.

According to him, the unit can be used in motor vehicles, generators, incinerators, chemical factories etc.  If the norms insist on an upper limit of 3% pollutants in the discharge from vehicles, his device was able to reduce it still further to 0.09%.

He has plans to produce it on commercial basis after obtaining patent.  According to him, he had used his observations and the help of some professors to come up with the invention.
