Mariakkutty Hajjumma’s gift of 18 cents of land and temple to Neelakantan Namboothiri’s family is a fitting example of communal harmony and how changes take place voluntarily and naturally.

8 decades ago, the land in question was part of litigation in connection with a lease dispute in the Muncif Court at Parappanangadi.  And from 1958, it was in the custody of Mariakutty Hajjumma, wife of former Pulikkal Grama Panchayat President, Khadar Haji.

Although the Namboothiri family was interested in renovating and using the temple in the plot, they were reluctant to approach Hajjumma for a piece of land that they had lost claim to long ago.  It was at this juncture that Hajjumma, on her own, decided to gift the land and approach road to Pulloor Mana, the family of Namboodiri.

In the plot there is a dilapidated Vishnu temple, believed to be almost 1500 years old, which is being renovated with the help of local people.  Although the 2 families were in different villages, Aroor and Aakkod, their mutual love has now resulted in Aakkod getting its 1st temple.
