It was the desire to earn an income that brought N.N.Sudha, with no family tradition in running a business, to the automobile battery-manufacturing field in 1994. But within a few years of starting the Bharat Automobile Batteries at Chalakkudy along with partners C.Ramani and C.M.Sulochana, her product has won the heart of the customers and the company has won the District and State level awards for the best entrepreneur 1999-2000.
In a field that witnesses keen competition, her eye for quality and customer care have brought the company rich dividends. Although the company, S.R.S.Industries, assures a warranty of 1 year, Sudha insists that their battery can work efficiently for at least 3 years. She ensures that even if very old battery is brought to the attention of the company, it will be repaired free of cost.
Based on the order, the product is delivered using the company van to the customers’ premises. This small service goes a long way in building customer loyalty, she said.
While the 3 women partners are engaged in looking after the manufacturing of product, their husbands, K.N.Sasi, T.D.Balakrishanan and M.N.Rajan are looking after the marketing part.
The company is now into manufacturing batteries used in inverters for domestic use. As part of diversification, they are looking forward to manufacturing tubular battery.
