THEO THILAK: THE FAMILY WHERE EVERYONE IS A DR. | |||||||
|
With his 64-year-old wife obtaining Ph.D in theology, all the 11 members of Dr.Theo A.R.Thilak’s family can now sport a Dr. before their names. His 5 children, 2 sons-in-law and 2 daughters-in-law were already doctors of medicine, when his wife Maggy came up with the right dissertation to fill the remaining gap! It is almost 5 decades since Dr.Theo from Nagarcoil settled down at Paravoor, where he runs the Dayabji Hospital, named after his late sister. He came here in connection with the activities of L.M.S.Mission and served in various hospitals in Kundara, Attingal, Kazhakkoottam etc. Though he came to Paravoor in 1954 with the intention to leave after 1 year, the loving persuasion of the people prompted him to continue there. The populace helped him to start the hospital, which was first put up in a rented building. Later the hospital moved to Theo’s own building and he settled down at Kurumandal. And in the course of time, all his children became doctors. The eldest son, Ray Thilak and his wife Dillyat are Medical Officers at Primary Health Centres, Poonjar and Chavara respectively. The second son Koman Thilak is working in a private hospital at Kollam, while the 3rd son Mayo Thilak and his wife Chalis are with Dayabji Hospital itself. The daughters, Lovely and Sabeena are in UK with their husbands, Dr.Prakash Johnson and Dr.Sivakumar Pandyan. Everyday, 75-year-old Dr.Theo makes it a point to visit the hospital that brings back memories of his sister. Dr.Theo and family
