About 205 test tube babies, and many more in the pregnant stage – this is a part of the contribution of Dr.N.P.Vijayalakshmi towards infertility treatment. Through her Vijayalakshmi Fertility Clinic And IVF Centre, she has proposed a blueprint for the comprehensive treatment of infertility in the State.
Her aim is to make the infertility treatment affordable to the middle and lower classes. Besides, she proposes to expand the Centre to treat all gynecologic problems.
After completing MBBS and MD, Dr.Vijayalakshmi worked in various medical colleges in the State. During this time she felt the need to have a comprehensive approach on infertility treatment. So when she resigned from Government service due to various reasons, she had no doubt in choosing her arena of activity. The Clinic, which had a humble beginning in 1991 at Giri Nagar, Ernakulam was later shifted to Kadavanthara with the addition of modern facilities.
Her husband, retired Director General of Police, R.Padmanabhan gives a helping hand to her in managing the Centre. Her only daughter Kameshwari is a student.
She considers as unforgettable, the gift of a poor couple who were blessed with a child after her treatment. The grateful parents came to meet her with a quarter kilo of banana chips to express their thanks.
